A major makeover is underway at a building located at the foot of the Millennium Bridge between iconic St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tate Modern. The existing building, Millennium Bridge House, was only completed in the late 1980s following demolition of the existing site only two years earlier.
The City of London Corporation has given the go ahead for the redevelopment of this riverside block that not only boasts views to the River Thames and St Paul’s Cathedral, but also promises retail space, a roof level restaurant and roof garden. Piercy & Company Architects is responsible for adaptively reusing the existing structure of the building while reconfiguring the internal layout and façade to optimise space and natural light. It is anticipated that the modern enhancements and public attractions will increase pedestrian flow.
ISG has been awarded the £65 million redevelopment of Millennium Bridge House and is tasked to use the existing structure sustainably, using Circular Economy, carbon reduction and resource efficiency. The project aims to achieve BREEAM RFO 2014 (Excellent) – compliance in the supply chain must be carefully considered.
Panthera Group has been appointed by ISG, the main contractor, to provide various site services for the duration of this adaptive reuse construction project.
Robert Ingram, Managing Surveyor at ISG says:
“I have used Panthera’s services for over 10 years and always found them to be extremely professional and collaborative in their approach. They are supportive during the tender process and offer a great service to our project teams. I would recommend their site set-up services without hesitation”.
ISG has opted to specify award-winning EnviroHoard™, the UK’s first net zero carbon hoarding system, for the perimeter hoarding on this prestigious project; the systems credentials are justified in a project specific environmental assessment provided at tender stage. Phase one works are well underway at Millennium Bridge House; Panthera has already installed 130m of EnviroHoard™ 2.4, secured with its low carbon engineer designed 800kg system which incorporates 50% GGBS.
EnviroHoard™ has been praised for its environmental credentials, winning four industry awards 2021 including gold award in the ‘Tackling Climate Chance’ category at the Construction News Specialists Awards and ‘Sustainability’ award at the National SME Awards.
Panthera’s EnviroHoard™ offers many commercial advantages – the system is quick to install and can be easily relocated as and when required. Additionally, the system boasts climate positive benefits including tree planting and carbon off-setting with Panthera’s partners Trees for Cities and Circular Ecology and supports contractors’ BREEAM, CEEQUAL and Considerate Constructor scoring, whilst also working towards Construction 2025.
Panthera Group, the complete site-set up company, has also been awarded the internal fit out of welfare facilities at this site which includes ISG offices, subcontractor offices, toilets, changing rooms, showering facilities and a canteen along with a security hut at the entrance.
Panthera Group is pleased to have been selected to support the team at ISG on this major redevelopment project.
