EnviroFence™ vs Open Mesh Fencing

At Panthera Group, we understand the challenges project managers face when securing construction sites. While conventional open mesh fencing has been the industry standard for decades, the new Temporary Works Forum guidance (TWf2024:01) highlights its significant limitations. Our patent-pending EnviroFence™ system represents a revolutionary upgrade that addresses these shortcomings while delivering superior sustainability credentials.

Why conventional mesh fencing falls short:

Traditional mesh fencing fundamentally fails to meet modern construction requirements, with the Temporary Works Forum (TWf2024:01) specifically highlighting its critical limitations.

These lightweight mesh systems can collapse in moderate winds, particularly when fitted with debris netting or signage, creating serious safety hazards and potential public liability.

Their inherent instability means they cannot reliably withstand the 0.74kN/m pedestrian loading required for effective edge protection.

Key Benefits of EnviroFence™:

TWf2024:01 Compliant

Designed with Temporary Works procedures and requirements in mind, EnviroFence™ can resist high winds and pedestrian loadings up to 0.74kN/m whilst achieving a Factor of Safety (FoS) of 1.5 against sliding and overturning.

Height Options

Choose between 2.4m, 3.0m, or 3.6m standard options to find the ideal perimeter protection for your project’s needs.

Support Options

Fixed directly to our low carbon 350kg EnviroBloK™, choose form a range of weighted proprietary options or secure to the ground using Spirafix™ ground screws.

Cost-Effective

With 100% reusable components, our fencing system offers long-term value, reducing waste and creating a closed-loop system.

  • Why Choose EnviroFence™?

EnviroFence™: The Superior Solution for Construction Sites

EnviroFence™ represents the gold standard of temporary site security, delivering exceptional performance where traditional systems fall short.

Fully compliant with TWf2024:01 guidance, it provides reliable stability against wind loads and personnel pressure, eliminating the common hazards associated with fence collapses. Available in heights from 2.4m to 3.6m with various security options, the system adapts to meet specific site requirements from basic boundary marking to high-security applications.

As the UK’s first Net Zero Carbon certified temporary fencing system, EnviroFence™ helps meet sustainability targets with measurable environmental benefits and comprehensive carbon reporting. The durable construction ensures multiple project uses, reducing both waste and long-term costs while maintaining a professional site appearance.

    Safety, Security & Compliance

By selecting EnviroFence™, you gain a practical, engineered solution that balances safety, security, compliance and sustainability—protecting your site, your team, and your project reputation more effectively than outdated alternatives.

The Panthera EnviroFence™ system is an on-ground, reusable, modular temporary fencing solution comprising a proprietary extendable RHS steel post that connects to a proprietary 350kg low-carbon concrete kentledge blocks, via a proprietary steel bracket. The components have been designed to be compatible with a variety of welded mesh types and can be configured to achieve a range of heights, wind, and pedestrian load resistances.

    Additional coverings

Additional coverings such a perforated signage and debris netting can also be accommodated. Anti-climb rollers or revolving spike toppers can also be added as well as cable support management.

    Compliance & Security Category

Various standard configurations up to 3.6m high have been designed to comply with BS 1722-14, open Mesh Fencing to satisfy the following security categories:

Category 1 (up to 2.4m high. 0.36kN/m pedestrian loading)

General purpose fence intended for use as a boundary marker or for those locations where it is deemed necessary merely to deter the casual intruder or trespasser.

Category 2 (at least 2.4m high, 0.36kN/m pedestrian loading)

Boundary/perimeter fence intended for use as a first level of security.

Category 3 (at least 3.0m high, 0.7kN/m pedestrian loading)

Security fences are intended for use in areas where greater protection is required from vandalism or trespass, and can be considered suitable for use for general industrial security such as for industrial estates, airfields, and oil installations.

EnviroFence™ can also be configured to satisfy the more general BS 6180 pedestrian load value of 0. 74kN/m as adopted by the Temporary Works forum document “Hoarding -A Guide to Good Practice”, should alignment with this standard be required.

We’re proud to have worked with some of the biggest names in the construction industry

Since 2015, Durkan have been successfully working with Panthera under a single supplier framework agreement, this alone is testament to their ability and commitment in supporting Durkan through its own growth plans. In this time Panthera have safely installed in the region of over 8000 metres of hoarding across our schemes. Their MD Neal James and his team have always acted professionally and regularly go over and above to support our site teams.

Durkan are committed to driving down the C02 impact of its projects, EnviroHoard™ helps us from the start of the project and now it is Net Zero Verified will only further support our sustainability targets. I look forward to working with them in the future and would recommend their services to other contractors.

    Dean Martin

    Construction Director, Durkan Ltd

Sisk have been using Panthera across its various Wembley Park regeneration schemes since 2011 and since 2018 a national framework has been in place, during this time they have safely and professionally designed and installed a range of hoarding systems to suit the projects exacting requirements. In line with our own company sustainability strategy, we have been using their sustainable EnviroHoard™ system and have been impressed by its flexibility and in particular its sustainable attributes including its climate positive benefits, Tree Planting and Carbon Offsetting. I have always found them to be an easy and collaborative subcontractor to work with and would have no hesitation in recommending their services.

Panthera are a Tier 1 Subcontractor to Lovell, who deliver in terms of H&S, quality of workmanship and have a pro-active attitude on site. In terms of commercial approach, Panthera are non-contractual and their quotations and valuations are of a very good quality. A major benefit of Panthera is that they can undertake the Site Hoarding, Temporary Electrics & Plumbing and CCTV Security on our project, these are procured under a single contract. Operationally they deliver these packages using their in-house teams and coordinate all packages saving our site teams having to coordinate multiple trades.

EnviroHoard™ not only helps us to meet our ambitious environmental targets, it also has real practical benefits. The panels needed to sit on top of a retaining wall with a 4m drop on one side. As EnviroHoard™ is installed from the rear, it eliminated the need for a partial road closure and the hiring of aerial platforms (MEWPS) which saved traffic disruption and cost and a further benefit was that the works did not have to take place at night.

The hoarding has a clean, professional looking appearance and does not need any on-going decorating maintenance and can be easily dismantled and reinstalled across the project with no loss in its visual appearance or structural integrity.

    Matthew Davis

    Project Manager, Kier

Firstly, the hoarding system we chose needed to be able to last for the entire project; this is because we made a conscious decision early on that a key driver across the scheme was to look for environmentally friendly alternatives. The EnviroHoard™ solution enabled us to meet that requirement perfectly.

We had been testing the product on simulated sites, but the opportunity to install in a real situation was ideal and has reaffirmed the benefits of the system. When coupled with the benefits of using a closed loop recycled solution that eliminates the use of trees, we believe EnviroHoard™ is the way forward for site hoarding solutions.
