Launched in March 2020 EnviroHoard™ is the new sustainable construction site hoarding system from Panthera Group. Made from 100% recycled post-production uPVC and fully recyclable, the system is designed to halt the use of trees in the production of site hoarding when substitute materials are available and more effective.
Due to its environmental attributes the product was specified by Keepmoat Homes Southern in advance of its official launch for a specific project with strict environmental requirements. The Cable Wharf site in Gravesend is a housing and regeneration scheme due for completion in 2024. It will provide 598 new homes, provision for a new primary school, new infrastructure and public open spaces that reflect the original heritage of the site. The scheme is Considerate Constructors registered and the EnviroHoard™ product helped the contractor to meet its environmental obligations by minimising the need for raw materials i.e. timber.
In total there will be around 1500m of hoarding at the site, which will be in situ for the five-year duration of the development. This has saved some 60 trees had a traditional timber and plywood hoarding been installed. As a business, Panthera Group believes trees are better in the ground absorbing the all-important CO².
Scott Willson, Construction Manager for Keepmoat Homes Southern, had specific requirements when selecting a site hoarding system;
“Firstly, the site hoarding system we chose needed to be able to last for the entire project; this is because we made a conscious decision early on that a key driver across the scheme was to look for environmentally friendly alternatives. The EnviroHoard™ solution enabled us to meet that requirement perfectly.”
This early project doubled up as on-site pre-launch testing of EnviroHoard™ and the simplicity of installation. The fixing method chosen was in-ground and proved to be straightforward and time-effective. Neal James, Managing Director of the Panthera Group, was very happy with the delivery of the contract;
“We had been testing the product on simulated sites, but the opportunity to install in a real situation was ideal and has reaffirmed the benefits of the system. When coupled with the benefits of using a closed loop recycling solution that eliminates the use of trees, we believe EnviroHoard™ is the way forward for site hoarding solutions.”
