Project Brief

Sustainable Site Security for Haringey Civic Centre Redevelopment

When John Sisk & Son Ltd needed sustainable site security for their prestigious Haringey Civic Centre redevelopment, they turned to Panthera.

Panthera Group, now part of the Orbis Group following its acquisition in 2025, worked with John Sisk & Son Ltd to deliver a solution that would provide robust perimeter security along with CCTV monitoring. Utilising our innovative EnviroHoard™ system, we provided a 10-year solution that saved 9 tonnes of CO₂ while delivering uncompromising security and aesthetic appeal.

Project overview: heritage meets innovation

The iconic Haringey Civic Centre, a listed building undergoing major redevelopment for Haringey Council, presented unique challenges. John Sisk & Son, the family-owned Irish construction company with over 160 years of experience, needed a security solution that would protect the heritage site’s integrity.

Equally important was finding solution s that would align with sustainability commitments, and deliver long-term value across a phased construction programme.

Panthera Group’s EnviroHoard™ system – the UK’s first net-zero verified hoarding – provided the perfect solution.

Project challenges

The project demanded more than basic site protection. Key challenges included:

  • Delivering a decorative hoarding that aligned with the client’s branding and aesthetic expectations, while ensuring long-term structural integrity.
  • Complying with Temporary Works (TW) design standards for a projected lifespan of up to 10 years.
  • Building in flexibility for phased works, allowing the hoarding line to be reconfigured as the project progressed – without costly redesigns or delays.
  • Integrating both in-ground and on-ground systems, carefully adapted to suit varying site conditions and underground service constraints.
  • Meeting tight delivery and installation timelines, while achieving a high-quality finish

Our solution: zero-maintenance, zero-waste security

EnviroHoard™

EnviroHoard™ is the UK’s first net-zero verified hoarding system, crafted from 100% recycled uPVC and designed to replace traditional single-use timber hoarding.

The system uses innovative EnviroBlok foundations for quick, no-dig installation and features a modular design that allows easy reconfiguration as projects evolve.

With 70% lower embodied carbon than conventional plywood alternatives and zero maintenance requirements, EnviroHoard™ delivers sustainable site security that can be fully recycled and reused across multiple projects

What we delivered:

  • 198 metres of in-ground EnviroHoard™, providing a robust, stable, and sustainable boundary
  • 21 metres of on-ground EnviroHoard™, ideal for areas with underground services or requiring temporary reconfiguration
  • Full graphic application to John Sisk & Son’s specification, ensuring a consistent corporate appearance.
  • 5 double-leaf vehicle gates (6m each), enabling secure, controlled access for plant and vehicles.
  • 3 pedestrian gates, offering safe and secure entry for workers and visitors.
  • Custom graphic stickers applied directly to the panel face, achieving a clean, branded finish without the need for vinyl.

The results: measurable impact across all metrics

Environmental benefits

The project delivered significant sustainability improvements, saving 9 tonnes of CO₂ compared to traditional timber hoarding. This reduction is equivalent to charging over 2 million mobile phones from 0-100% or the same emissions impact as 17 return flights from Paris to New York.

Resource conservation was achieved through the zero waste solution with fully reusable components. No trees were cut down for single-use hoarding, and the system used 100% recycled uPVC construction materials.

Operational advantages

Zero maintenance requirements meant no repainting or repairs would be needed over the 10-year lifespan. This eliminated ongoing decorative costs while maintaining a professional appearance throughout the entire project duration. Installation efficiency met tight delivery and installation timelines while achieving a high-quality finish to detailed specifications. The flexible reconfiguration capability maintained compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Cost effectiveness was delivered through a single installation serving the entire project duration, reduced labour costs through modular design, and eliminated recurring maintenance expenses.
