Panthera Group is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the official hoarding contract for the €8.7 billion regeneration of East London’s Silvertown. The company has been appointed by logistics firm Clipfine on behalf of the iconic, pioneering specialists, Lendlease. This mixed-use regenerative project is set to become a new destination for London and will see the Millennium Mills restored to a thriving new town centre with shops, leisure facilities, restaurants, cafes, and bars, and over 6,000 new homes.
Panthera Group won the contract to install its EnviroHoard™ and EnviroFence™ products at the site following an extensive tender process for a sustainable hoarding solution that can withstand the ten-year project duration and complies to Lendlease’s onerous loading requirements that exceed TWf guidance. Forming part of the tender process a team from Lendlease’s Temporary Works department and the projects Construction Managers visited Panthera’s headquarters to undertake a robust Q&A session and physical inspection of the systems using the as-built mock-up on the company’s premises.
The award-winning system is designed in accordance with the TWf:2012 guidance code for wind, crowd and vehicle loading, and can exceed Lendlease’s higher factors of safety requirements. EnviroHoard™ and EnviroFence™ are designed to easily withstand the extensive project duration of ten-years plus; the system does not delaminate or deteriorate meaning that there is no requirement for replacement nor on-site decorating, and boasts an adaptable, modular design to improve manual handling and reduce the cost of hoarding moves.
Praised for its environmental credentials, EnviroHoard™ is the UK’s first sustainable hoarding system to have undergone a cradle to grave Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in accordance with the European wide standard EN 15804:2019; the sustainability, and commercial benefits of specifying EnviroHoard™ soar as the longer the duration of the project, the greater the benefits.
On this project of an estimated ten-years, by specifying EnviroHoard™ and EnviroFence™, Clipfine and Lendlease will benefit from 95.14% lower embodied carbon than if using the equivalent plywood hoarding method. By mandating EnviroHoard™ on the Silvertown project – set to complete in 2036 – Clipfine and Lendlease can expect:
- Embodied carbon saving of 68.5 tonnes CO2 eq by using EnviroHoard™ & EnviroFence™ over a plywood hoarding.
- 68.5 tonnes of CO2 would fill up 68, 15m3 hot air balloons, or 10.2 trips around the world in a modern diesel car.
- 94 trees planted through our partners Trees for Cities and Circular Ecology.
- Saving an estimated 62no. 50–60-year-old softwood trees from being needlessly cut down.
Both systems boast climate positive benefits including tree planting and carbon offsetting with the company’s partners Trees for Cities and Circular Ecology.
Panthera Group has supplied and installed quality checked class B panels; used EnviroHoard™ and EnviroFence™ panels are a fantastic solution for the Silvertown site that will shortly be wrapped in PVC-free graphics. By opting for class B panels Lendlease and Clipfine will benefit from reduced costs and increased sustainability.
Lendlease is a sustainability conscious company and has published its Mission Zero – to generate no greenhouse gas emissions from its business activities by 2040. Lendlease hopes to achieve BREEAM Certification for all non-residential properties on this project, a aspiration that EnviroHoard™ and EnviroFence™ can certainly help support with.
Panthera Group’s Managing Director, Neal James, was responsible for securing the hoarding contract with Lendlease and Clipfine:
“This is a great win for Panthera! The team are overjoyed to have secured such a prestigious high-profile project and cannot wait to get started on site. For a company of the stature of Lendlease to approve the system is a testament to the design and sustainability credentials of the EnviroHoard™ system. We look forward to working alongside Clipfine and delivering Lendlease our systems across the scheme.”
The company was also awarded the hoarding contract by the Riverlinx consortium at the Silvertown Tunnel for Transport for London (TfL). The project commenced in January 2021 and is expected to complete after five-years. On this occasion, the client mandated EnviroHoard™ for its sustainable, ‘no-dig’ hoarding solution.
